ML EXCLUSIVE! In addition to her acting credits, Courteney has taken on several other projects with Coquette Productions, including Courteney’s former show, which aired on FX, Dirt. “Dirt was an in-house idea that we pitched and sold to the network first and then we hired a writer. That was really close to my heart, because I thought the idea was great. I thought that show was great. It was dark and very heady. It could’ve been more fun,” said Courteney with a trace of disappointment in her voice. Working on Cougar Town also as an Executive Producer has been a blast for Courteney. “Executive producing this show is fantastic... Bill was not into it at first… He went from I can’t believe an actress can ever be my partner in anyway, to the most —he’s just so generous. It’s a great partnership, I think. I feel very comfortable in this with Bill and Kevin.” Actress, producer… how about director? “I want to. I love that. Perfect job, I love directing. I really have a great time,” Courteney gushed. As for directing on Cougar Town, she jokingly alluded that the cast might not be too thrilled about taking orders from her. I find that hard to believe. Those who have worked with Courteney have nothing but kind words to say about the actress repeatedly described as super sweet and so nice. Actress Lisa Maris, who played one of Joey’s sisters on Friends, recounted working with Courteney. “Walking on to a set with a cast that is already so established can be nerve-wracking, but Courteney was very nice, welcoming and genuine. She came right up to me and introduced herself. No attitude —working in Hollywood, you don’t always get that on a set.” In an industry where inflated egos are so prevalent, it’s refreshing to hear how down-to- earth a celebrated actress like Courteney is. Josh Hopkins, who plays Grayson Ellis, Jules’ neighbor and possible love interest, shared what it’s like to work with his cougariffic co-star. “Courteney is so fun to work with. It’s like working with a comedy ninja. She’s so good and quick and funny.” Even David enjoys working with his wife as they both have reprised their roles as Gale Weathers Riley and Deputy ‘Dewey’ Riley in the horror film series Scream 4. David and Courteney met during the filming of the first Scream (1996). Married over 10 years now, the two make a hot couple on and off screen. In 2000, David and Courteney won the Teen Choice Award for “Best Chemistry in a Film- Scream 3.” When the successful couple aren’t acting (at the time of the interview Courteney mentioned that David was working on his play “The Female of the Species” at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles), heading up their production company, or spending time with their adorable 5-year-old Coco, what are the Arquettes up to? Spending time with friends. “The weirdest thing is we go to Courteney’s house on a Sunday afternoon, it’s like the most famous people in the world and I’m just like some idiot that shows up,” Kevin said in awe of his partner’s circle of friends. “Her Thanksgiving party, I’m like, Are you ****ing kidding me? Where am I right now?” he exclaimed. While on the topic of Thanksgiving, to demonstrate just how much of Courteney has gone into the character Jules, Bill mentioned, “Courteney makes everyone hold hands and say a quick blessing. And it’s important because it really is her character on the show –so we did it on Thanksgiving (in an episode). She does this every Sunday because she is the type of person who is thankful for this stuff and is grateful.”ML Photo Credit: ABC / Bob D'Amico MIAMI LIVING 79
