MUSIC GUIDE Submerse Yourself in the Summer’s Sexiest Sounds Words by Natalia Leos Sometimes it’s the history. Sometimes it’s the drink specials. Sometimes it’s the crowd. And sometimes it’s simply the fact that on any given night, you know they’ve booked another great show. For the days that you want to see music that comes from an instrument and not a computer, here is a lineup of the best live music venues in Miami. JAZID right notes for everyone. Known for its gritty sounds and blues-drenched ambiance, this legendary grandfather of a saloon has seen its fair share of celebrities — showcased all over the downstairs walls. As if the awesome drink specials weren’t enough, the burgers are one of the best in town. 626 S Miami Ave Miami, FL 33130 www.tobacco-road.com FLORIDA ROOM Honestly, what’s a dive bar without board You may feel like you’ve just crossed the state lines of Louisiana and entered into a New Orleans jazz club when you step inside this friendly two-story hangout. The club touts its “Live music every damn night” slogan serving generous helpings of rhythm and blues, soul, funk, jazz and Motown. The 5,000 square foot space is quite small, giving it an air of intimacy. While the lower half is smoky, sultry and illuminated by flickering candelabra, the upstairs is contemporary and space-age cool. 1342 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach 33139 www.jazid.net TOBACCO BAR If you’re looking for a sexy, attitude-free You can find live entertainment any night of the week at Tobacco Road. Purportedly Miami’s oldest bar, Tobacco Road has been a favorite among musicians and music lovers alike. Between poetry performances, monologues, jazz, rock, blues, electronic artists, this no-frills dive bar is sure to hit the environment, then look no further than the Florida Room - the latest seen-and-be-seen haunt on the ground floor of the Delano hotel. Designed by Lenny Kravitz’s design firm, the subterranean speakeasy mixes old- school Florida décor with the aesthetics of a swanky cruise-ship lounge. The lounge features live musical performances in the early evening and a DJ-driven scene as the sun sets. And the extensive list of cocktails is like an adult candy store. Since its opening, the Florida Room has hosted its fair share of classy parties and an enticing lineup of celebrities. 1685 Collins Ave Miami, FL 33139 www.delano-hotel.com Do you pine for nights filled with sticky salsa rhythms and glasses of classic mojitos? Well it’s time to stop pining. Hoy Como Ayer screams culture and draws a diverse crowd into its diminutive digs in Little Havana. Here a non-elitist crowd gathers to enjoy live music and sashay the night away. The homegrown band, Spam Allstars, transports patrons to Cuba when it takes to the stage for its Thursday residency. Black and white pictures of famous Latin musicians line the walls as music notes and instruments hang from the ceiling over the small dance floor. You better bring your dancing shoes. 2212 SW 8th St Miami, Florida 33135. www.hoycomoayer.us ML MIAMI LIVING 35 games?
