Sparkle, will celebrate local and national leaders for their work on behalf of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community on Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach. General admission is $200, $300 for VIP. This year, the Task Force is honoring activist Nicaraguan-born Georg Ketelhohn with the 2011 Eddy McIntyre Community Service Award. A stalwart advocate of gay rights, Ketelhohn resigned from his job as an attorney in 2002 to serve as the (unpaid) campaign manager for SAVE Dade's successful No To Discrimination campaign, which defeated an attempt to legalize discrimination against lesbians and gays by repealing a portion of the county's Human Rights Ordinance. During that campaign, Ketelhohn also served as SAVE Dade's liaison with the Task Force's Organizing and Training Department, which helped train the former's campaign staff and volunteers. He is a litigator with Siegfried, Rivera, Lerner, De La Torre & Sobel, P.A., and serves as the board treasurer for Florida Together, a statewide federation of LGBT and allied organization, of which he is a founder and first board chair. Launched in 1997, the Recognition Dinner has established itself as the year's hot-ticket event, uniting the community and 100 MIAMI LIVING celebrating its heroes. Past honorees include community leaders like Cindy Brown and Katy Sorenson, as well as Hillary Clinton, Sir Ian McKellen, and Alan Cumming. The Recognition Dinner and its sister event Winter Party Festival have raised more than $2.2 million for LGBT community-serving organizations. A granting program administered by the Dade Community Foundation returns two- thirds of net proceeds from both events to the community. The 15th Annual Miami Recognition Dinner will be held Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach.
