PROFILE ENTERTAINMENT Have a need for speed? Put your pedal to the metal at K1 Speed The moment I open the doors to K1 Speed, I know I've become Boris Said. The excitement and speed hits me like a cold breeze on a hot summer day. The sounds of the tracks mingle with upbeat music and lively chatter. The thrill is palpable. K1 Speed consists of two areas. Televisions, racing memorabilia, tables made up of glass and Firestone and Good Year tires are surrounded by race car seats and sprinkled everywhere. There is a Pit Café, the perfect place for Gatorade and nachos, and a shop selling racing gear. As I look around, the black and tin walls tell me to "Live Fast, Race Fast." That is exactly what I am ready to do. In the second area is where the excitement truly begins. Lines of red and yellow karts wait to be raced around two tracks. With a K1 Speed Racing License in my pocket, a red, black, and silver helmet on my head, and the racing safety rules stored in brain, I am ready to race. Even though it is the first time I get in one of these environmentally-friendly, high performance electric karts capable of 45 mph speed, I am not worried. This is a place for expert drivers as well as beginners. The staff at K1 Speed is friendly and attentive, giving me encouraging "thumbs up" and waving Racing Banners each time I go around the track. By the time I see the white flag announcing my last lap, I am hooked. I get my race results and all I can say is: call me Boris from now on! Visit k1speed.com, call 954.416.0044 or stop by at 2950 Stirling Road. Book a party or get a fabulous package for yourself. Races never expire and you know you will be back! FOOD A Taste of Italy Mammanon's brings you tasty tarallis There are sounds, aromas, and tastes that when experienced act as portals to different times and places. That is exactly what happens when taking a bite out of a Mammanon's Taralli. The flavor of Italy is just a mouse click away. A Taralli is a classic Italian boiled and baked good made with pizza dough. These crunchy "Italian Pretzels" can be found in multiple flavors, from the original baked with herbs to tarallis dipped in milk and dark chocolate. For that much needed kick, there is the Hot Pepper Taralli. All are perfect as snacks or part of meals. Have a romantic evening for two planned? Add candlelight, assorted cheeses, a bottle of red wine, sparking wine glasses, and tarallis. Romance is certainly in the air. The boss is coming over for dinner? Show creativity, ingenuity, and folklore by serving tarallis as appetizers. At parties, dip them in hummus, mustard, cheese fondue, or (gasp) in oodles and oodles of melted chocolate. This authentic Italian tradition is available to all because of Chef Danielle A. Nigro. Danielle learned at a young age the secrets of the kitchen from her Italian father's side and Puerto Rican mother. Meatballs and plantains molded the chef she is today. Mammanon's is named after Danielle's great grandmother, Angelina Corvino, who brought the family recipes from Italy. In their beautiful golden packaging adorned with the chef's grandmother's face, Antonietta Nigro, they make great gifts for any occasion. A true family heritage, three generations of talented women in every package, it is impossible not to "Taste the Tradition." 98 MIAMI LIVING From Danielle's table to yours, buon appetito!
