FASHION city has a carefree vibe and celebrations are always in order —that is where most of our festive designs derive from. ML: At what point did you realize that you had created something that really stands out from the rest? Was there a "we've made it!" moment that you can recall? LH: Yes! When the retail buyers call us and say, 'I must have this brand, because the girls are coming in asking for it!' Also, when we received a call from the Wynn/Encore in Las Vegas informing us that Beyoncé purchased three Luli Fama bikinis! ML: Is it true that you came up with the concept of the scrunch butt bottom? Where did this come from? LH: Very true, we are the pioneers of the original ruched bottom. As a woman, I know the importance of paying great attention to detail and the concerns of most women when they shop for a bathing suit. Most brands put a lot of focus into the fit of their tops and how to accentuate /minimize the bust. Women are blessed with two areas that may require accentuating / minimizing. The ruched bottom is for the consumer who wants to give the illusion of a 'lifted' derriere. It works miracles! The bottoms sit on the derriere nicely and don't sag when wet. The wavey, ruched finishing works as a contrast against flattened skin. ML: Luli Fama has been around for 9 years now, are you (and Augusto) still very hands-on in the designs of the swimsuits and cover-ups? LH: Absolutely! We are the design forces behind each collection! Without us, there wouldn't be Luli Fama. ML: Why do you think your suits are so popular with consumers and celebrities? LH: Our consumer's feedback is extremely important to us. We interact with them via social media —before this tool, we encouraged them to give feedback on our site— to get a great understanding of their swimwear preferences. We pay great attention to their suggestions, whether its color stories or new silhouettes to consider. One thing that we've noticed is most consumers and celebrities are loyalists, meaning A-list starlets like Beyoncé, LeAnn Rimes, Shakira, Jennifer Aniston, Brandi Glanville have purchased several suits on their own, without us sending a plethora of styles for seasonal gifting. It is very inspiring to see our coverage in media with celebrities wearing our styles on special vacations or just to catch some rays. Our consumers love our brand and actively post images of themselves onto our Facebook Fan Page. ML: What celebrities would you love to see your swimsuit on? LH: Salma Hayek, Penélope Cruz, Fergie, Jennifer Lopez ML: What can customers always count on when purchasing Luli Fama? LH: Impeccable fit, festive designs, charmingly-girly accents, look-at silhouettes, and the fusion of sexy meets sophisticated swimwear! ML: Are there any plans to expand the brand to include more than bikinis and cover-ups? LH: Absolutely! We are working on transitioning Luli Fama into a lifestyle brand.
