PEOPLE A Fresh Spin on Tradition Duckie Brown partners with Perry Ellis Words by Marla E. Schwartz The semi-annual New York Fashion Week is held yearly in February and September. This year's show is already causing a major buzz in the industry because the Perry Ellis® by Duckie Brown® collection will be unveiled. This exciting collaboration has brought together the classic look of American sportswear, Perry Ellis, with a company whose designs are highly regarded for their daring, distinctive and nonconformist qualities. The collaboration was officially announced earlier in the year. "We're thrilled to collaborate with Duckie Brown. Co-founders Steven Cox and Daniel Silver's talent for innovative menswear has made a real impact in the industry. They truly understand the Perry Ellis DNA," said Doug Jakubowski, the brand's Chief Merchandising Officer. "We look forward to presenting a fresh and exciting collection that combines their modern sensibility with the Perry Ellis heritage." This collection will be available in the spring of 2013. Steven is a former designer at Tommy Hilfiger® and Daniel is a former daytime television producer. They have a dozen designers working with them and in a short amount of time have achieved a stellar reputation that's usually anointed to those in the business for decades. The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) first nominated Duckie Brown in 2006 with, in fact – the Perry Ellis Menswear Award. In 2007, Duckie Brown was nominated for the CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year Award, along with Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein. Steven and Daniel, partners in their private and professional lives, answered a few questions for Miami Living. Miami Living: How did this collaboration come to be? Daniel Silver: At the beginning it was kind of a surprise to us that we were approached by Perry Ellis, but after we watched old Perry Ellis fashion shows, we realized Perry Ellis had had a sense of humor. Perry Ellis sort of didn't take fashion too seriously, and neither do we. Steven Cox: The thing that's most interesting is that it's been very easy. It was very natural. It was easy to execute, and we picked up on a lot of stuff that Perry did. Steven Cox (left) and Daniel Silver (right) 74 MIAMI LIVING
