ULTRA HISTORY UMF started as a one day musical event, and soon after became a two day event, then progressed into a three day event. Today ULTRA is an internationally recognized festival with some of the biggest, hottest, and best headline-artists in the world. It was originally created as an electronic dance music festival in 1999 for the local youth in Miami. This extravagant festival, started out as a rave where electronic music lovers could come together and wild-out. Now, the event is more 52 MIAMI LIVING organized with sponsors and with a world festival tradition. There's high energy music, unique bumping beats, fireworks, light shows, and glow lights. Throughout the years, and due to its growing popularity, ULTRA began to incorporate in the line-up headline bands that integrate electronic dance music elements in their music and have a history in the electronic dance music community and culture. Previous years have featured talent such as The Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy, Fatboy Slim, Justice, Moby, The Cure, The Killers, The Black Eyed Peas, Santogold, New Order, The Ting Tings, Duran Duran, and The Bravery —to name a few. Ultra Music Festival was the winner of the Best Music Event by the International Dance Music Awards (IDMA) in 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011. It was also the Best International Dance Music Festival by Ibiza DJ Awards in 2008. This three day event is the biggest and most famous dance music event – and worth every penny. In addition to the festival in Miami, there is a separate UMF WORLDWIDE brand. These series of festivals continue to expand internationally with sold out festivals in Brazil, Ibiza, and many other countries.
