Contributors MARTIN HARO – Senior Writer Miami Living senior writer Martin Haro – also the associate editor of FIU Magazine, SoBeSocialClub.com contributor, occasional Us Weekly and In Touch 305 reporter, and E! Online's self-appointed "Desk SoBe" – likes to hustle. He has lived in Miami for almost 12 years during which, he says, he has gotten to "go out, drink at many an open bar, watch many a free movie, and write about it. How sweet is that?" Born and raised in Lima, Peru, the guy is happiest while lounging at his secret pool while enjoying quesadillas with Mike('s Hard Lemonade), or hanging out with the lifelong friends he's met here and wouldn't trade for a big ol' slice of chocolate cake (don't offer him a whole cake, though). "I really love it here, and writing about being here and everything there is to do and that I have gotten to do here," he says. "They don't call it the Magic City for nothing." Among the events he has covered are the openings of many a bar/hotel/restaurant, as well as dos like Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim, New York's Fashion Week, the Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival (a personal fave of his), the Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival (MGLFF), and the MTV Video Music Awards. He has worked with MGLFF on its programming committee in the past, and served on committees organizing the Task Force's Miami Recognition Dinner, n.k.a. Sparkle, in 2011 and 2010. Oh, and he also keeps a blog, moviemartin.blogspot.com, where he shares his take on all things pop culture. And he's on Twitter, too, @moviemartin. MATTHEW WEEKS – Senior Writer Born and raised next to brilliant rays of sunshine, crashing waves, and crisp granules of sand nipped from the tanned crust of Daytona Beach; Matthew is the epitome of a Floridian. You can find him either jamming out, from the rooftop of his lungs, to an indie melody, or running in his neon Nikes along Miami's sidewalks. At age 28, there are only a handful of things left in this world that still give him goose bumps. These include seeing his wife (Amy) and nine-month-old daughter (Grace) smile, admiring cascading sunsets, and writing. And when his arms become tattooed with those petite round spots, it signifies his truest sense of self: a loose-knotted, preppy perfectionist. In 2010, Matthew received his master's degree in writing from Nova Southeastern University. Additionally, for the past five years, he has managed the editorial department for the Institute for Medical Education & Research (IMER). His writing has appeared in numerous publications, such as Miami Living, Aventura, the Boca Raton Observer, FSView and NSU's Farquhar Forum. Quite frankly, his unmistakable desire and sheer ambition are assets that will not only stand the test of time within the writing community but push open the quill-tipped parachutes of the publishing industry at large. KRISTIN LESHINSKI – office & Accounting mAnAger Using her sharp sense for technology, verve for a challenge and experience with all aspects of Miami Living Magazine and MacDirectory, Kristin began writing. Managing and facilitating the relationships with advertisers and readers alike, she is able to provide a truly unique perspective in her pieces. Kristin has been encouraged mostly, by her role as mother to a beautiful 3-year-old boy, to push the barriers of her professional calling. Previously a Certified Nurse's Aide, she looked to her current position for a more cerebral work experience where she could hone her passion for expression and has found just that. Kristin is also the Office and Accounting Manager for MacDirectory. MACKENZIE MACLAY – Writer / BuSineSS Development Mackenzie Maclay graduated from Assumption College, a small Catholic liberal arts college in New England in May of 2010. Growing up in Concord, Massachusetts —a small suburb of Boston— Mackenzie found the pressures of teenage life at her public high school overwhelming. Her mother Stacey, whom she refers to as her angel, transferred her out and placed her into private school. Here, Mackenzie thrived and developed into an all-star lacrosse player, which led to her recruitment to Assumption College. College and the lacrosse team provided Mackenzie with the tools she needed to succeed. Her passion for creative writing and poetry helped her decide to pursue English as her major. She graduated with a Bachelor of the Arts in English and Mass Communications with a minor in Marketing. Today, Mackenzie is very content living in warm Sunny Isles Beach, Florida. She hopes that Miami will continue to present her with great opportunities as she begins to establish herself as a writer and explore her ambition to have her own event planning company someday. 18 miAmi living
