JUST OPENED Just Opened Check out these places that have recently opened near you! Words by Matthew Weeks Coral Gables Art Cinema 260 Aragon Ave Coral Gables, FL 33134 (786) 385-9689 Cinemateque.org I don't know anyone who doesn't enjoy the movies. Visiting the cinema is one of society's most iconic things to do. This past November, the Art Cinema opened directly in the heart of Coral Gables. Not only does this state-of-the-art theater feature major motion pictures, but it also showcases student projects. Therefore, on behalf of all South Florida residents, I say thank you to the Coral Gables Cinemateque, Inc. for bringing us such a remarkable new movie destination. The Dutch 2201 Collins Ave Miami Beach, FL 33139 (305) 938-3111 Thedutchmiami.com It's common to believe that if something works in SoHo, then it must work everywhere. After dining at The Dutch, I can admit that logical formula above holds true. Located within the W South Beach Hotel, The Dutch offers a variety of traditional American cuisine injected with all of Miami's best ingredients. Chef Andrew Carmellini, a two- time James Beard Award winner, keeps this eatery open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and welcomes everyone from surfers to suits. Time to get your grub on! East End Brasserie 601 N. Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd • Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304 (954) 567-8020 Eastendbrasserie.com Opening right before the ghosts of Halloween took flight, East End Brasserie features fantastic French fare at extremely affordable prices. Conceived by Chef Steve Zobel, formerly of NYC-Midtown's Triomphe, this authentic European bistro exemplifies sheer coziness courtesy of its enormous panoramic ocean views; which makes total sense since it's located inside of the Atlantic Resort & Spa. Their edible masterpieces represent what French delicacies are all about: simple yet sophisticated cuisine. Edge, Steak & Bar 1435 Brickell Ave Miami, FL 33131 (305) 381-3015 Edgerestaurantmiami.com This new age, non-traditional steakhouse, which opened in late November, offers an assortment of high-quality, petite- sized cuts of beef. Designed by Chefs Aaron Brooks and James King, Edge, Steak & Bar is as sleek as the Four Seasons Hotel, which houses this 3,300- square-foot contemporary eatery. As I learned long ago, nothing compares to filet mignon, done medium well, accompanied by garlic mashed potatoes with a Jack-and-Coke to wash it down. All of which are easily savored here. Chophouse Miami Bistro & Lounge 300 S Biscayne Blvd Miami, FL 33131 (305) 938-9000 Chophousemiami.com Remodeled in historic downtown, Chophouse Miami Bistro & Lounge is spearheaded by legendary Chef Jacques Van Staden. What's truly unique about this venue is the clever mixture between worldwide ingredients and time-proven cooking techniques. In addition to countless steak staples, they offers a bevy of incredible sushi. Everything from Diver's Scallops to Blue Fin Tuna to Eel Sensation leaves you with tastes of the deliciously divine. Surf and Turf found here. Cibo Wine Bar 45 Miracle Mile Coral Gables, FL 33134 (305) 442-4925 Cibowinebar.com Like many of you, I've battled the thousands of pedestrians that fill Miracle Mile every day. But now, instead of focusing my efforts exclusively on retail stores, I can look forward to savoring spirits at Cibo Wine Bar. With over 7,076 square feet dedicated to rustic wines and charming Italian cuisine, this wine bar has been booming since its grand opening in October. Therefore, my palate wishes to praise Liberty Entertainment Group for establishing such a wonderful watering hole. Bottoms up! Surfcomber Hotel 1717 Collins Ave Miami Beach, FL 33139 (305) 532-7715 Surfcomber.com Recently opened, Surfcomber Hotel blends together European bohemia with South Beach flare. With an opulent selection of ocean-side rooms, a tranquil pool to bask in, and several serene palm trees nearby, guests can let their hair down and relax as they watch the current of the Atlantic Ocean drift bye. Finally, when the sand pixels squish between their toes, guests will face the most difficult question of their life: When is it time to leave? Answer: Not yet. Pearl Restaurant & Champagne Lounge 1 Ocean Dr Miami Beach, FL 33139 (786) 515-1150 PearlMiamiBeach.com Every one of those four words (excluding the ampersand) churns optimistic enthusiasm for future nights with amazing memories. After an all-too-long hiatus, Chef Sylvain Noel scheduled Pearl Restaurant & Champagne Lounge's epic return to South Beach glory for the end of the year (December 2011). Scanning the spectrum of their menu's American lamb to Asian BBQ, everything is as mouthwatering as the sun burnt bodies that walk in the door. MIAMI LIVING 25
