Average men and women share stories on the difficulties of meeting the perfect person of the opposite sex. Only two supermodels, gorgeous enough to grace the covers of magazines (no Photoshop work required) are flabbergasted by the question, "Where do you meet people?" Where do you meet people? It is a tough question. I have the answer: at a Lock and Key Event. This is where you can meet plenty of single people of all ages. Lock and Key Events has been unlocking locks and making love connections since 2002. It is the largest national singles events company in North America. Up to 45 events can be running in different cities simultaneously. How many locks and keys is that? If we have to go through the misery of searching for a date, we all know this is far from a leisurely walk in the park, why not have fun doing it? At every event there is an assortment of appetizers – a delicious distraction to calm nerves as we wait for locks and keys to be distributed. While I wait, I realize that it is not only about meeting men. I make many girlfriends as we bond over dating horror stories and our excitement about the possibilities ahead. We giggle and look around, wondering which one of the handsome arriving men will hold our key. Finally, Darren, owner and founder of Lock and Key Events, grabs our attention. Tiny locks with heart stickers dangling from long bright pink strings are given to the women, and shiny miniature keys on silver chains to the men. Let the unlocking begin! My new accessory could be the "key" to my future. Guy after guy comes to me and tries his key. The place is packed. Yes, girls, you will hear a handful of lame jokes turning keys and locks into some kind of Freudian symbol, but really, how could you not? It is part of the night's charm. This process is fantastic, especially for those who are shy. What better way to break the ice? The lock and the key provide that first opening line, that opportunity to talk. An eruption of cheers makes all of us turn and look. The first lock has been opened. The fun is so contagious. I am on a mission to have mine unlocked. When this happens, I wonder why the Lock and Key gods chose this particular gentleman. He is not my type. Right when I am thinking "no way, José," I realize…. I get another lock. Another chance! The way it works, during the event you can have the lock opened again and again. For every opened lock you both get a raffle ticket, new lock, new keys, and perhaps a new love. By the end of the evening, I talk to every single guy in the room! In only a few hours, we all meet over 50 single guys and 50 girls! Time to return our love hardware, but it is not over.
