BEAUTY CONTROL Salon & Gallery 2814 North Miami Avenue, south of 29th 305.573.6910 • control-miami.com Words by Mackenzie Maclay Ladies (and gentlemen), ever been fed up with your hair? Even more, fed up with stylists who claim they can fix your hair and solve all your life's problems too? I've felt this way for years. I'm 23 and have dyed my hair over 20 times in the past three years—at least five different colors. Eventually, I wasn't sure what my natural hair color was. And no matter how many trims I got, I still had split ends. Worse, my hair was dry and brittle, despite using expensive hair products and conditioning treatments! Then I heard about CONTROL Salon & Gallery from a friend who lives nearby in the Wynwood Design District. I could tell right away that everyone in the six-seat salon, from the stylists to the clients, were happy to be there. The vibe was positive with its upbeat funky music, outgoing stylists and artsy decor --befitting of its Design District location. As soon as I walked in the door, Bill, the owner, introduced himself and DeAnna Gladwell, the stylist who was to work on my hair. He offered me a glass of wine, which I accepted, and stayed during my over-30-minutes consultation. Not for a moment did I feel I was being judged. (I can't tell you how many times I have gone to expensive salons that didn't see me as a person but as just 90 MIAMI LIVING another project or head of hair.) DeAnna took the time to relate to me, give me options and explain what has worked for clients with hair similar to mine. I was literally at the salon for almost five hours having my hair cut, styled and blown-dry, plus a conditioning treatment and color corrections. I also received a manicure and pedicure while I was there. By the time I left the salon my hair felt refreshed and so did I. I've been back many times since and have recommended CONTROL not only to my girlfriends but guy friends too. All have raved about CONTROL. You should check it out too.
