JUST OPENED Just Opened Check out these places that have recently opened near you! Words by Matthew Weeks BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse 12100 Pines Boulevard Pembroke Pines, FL 33026 (954) 430-3545 bjsbrewhouse.com If you're looking for a place to quench your dry winter thirst, then drop by BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse and try one of their fifteen fermented brews. My stomach thanked me for their Nutty Brewnette, Piranha Pale, and Oktoberfest ales. In 2010, they received five gold medals from the North American Beer Awards. They also feature a menu loaded with American classics: deep dish pizza, burgers, gourmet sandwiches… and BJ's famous Pizookie. High Club Miami 524 Ocean Drive Miami Beach, FL 33139 (305) 439-1133 highmiami.com If you're lucky enough to get through High Club's front doors, the first thing you'll notice is a kaleidoscope of beautiful people in an intimate space (max capacity is 400). Divided into three separate areas, High Club includes a French Revolution themed room, VIP platform that feels more like an architect's loft, and serene outdoor terrace reminiscent of a Monet painting. Bottles of liquor fly off the shelves as quickly as their DJs spin House music. M Bar 1301 East Las Olas Boulevard Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301 (954) 766-4946 mbarlasolas.com Recently opened, M Bar is operated by Chef Kevin McCarthy and hosts a cornucopia of modern comfort dishes. When I visited, the smell of sautéed clams, crispy pork belly, and lamb lollipops ran supreme, and the sweet taste of hazelnut ignited my tongue with bliss. To put it bluntly, I haven't been the same person since. In addition to their Global Tapas menu, M Bar offers over forty craft beers. Everything here is a solid choice. Mayfair's Fins Lounge Mayfair Hotel & Spa 3000 Florida Avenue Coconut Grove, FL 33133 (305) 441-0000 mayfairhotelandspa.com There's no feeling quite like attending a Miami Dolphins home game. However, if you can't make it to Sun Life stadium or are in the mood for something different, then visit the Mayfair Hotel. Every game day, Mayfair's amazing pool, which scans the Atlantic Ocean, converts into the Fins Lounge. Fans can relax in striped cabanas, order beer buckets, or devour their 50-cent buffalo wings. What more could you ask for, especially when the Bills are in town!? Open Kitchen 1071 95th Street Bay Harbor, FL 33154 (305) 865-0090 openkitchenmiami.com If you're looking for something extremely affordable (approx. $10) and pleasantly delectable then Open Kitchen is for you! Run by Chefs Sandra Stefani and Ines Chattas, Open Kitchen is a whimsical bistro that has everything from traditional Italian pastas to artsy pork sandwiches. They also offer larger-than-life sized portions for those family gatherings where the food seems to go as quickly as the booze. Open Kitchen's vibe is somewhere between old fashion cooking and modern cuisine. Pulse Lounge 11401 NW 12th Street, 2nd Fl. Miami, FL 33172 (305) 722-3900 pulseloungemiami.com First off, what's not to like about a 35-foot long bar? My point exactly – no long lines, no random fights, no annoying drink orders, and plenty of avenues to snag the girl or guy of your dreams. At Pulse Lounge, their signature bar is a reflection of its other positive attributes. Case in point, several VIP booths, live performance stage for various artists, and a 2,600 square foot dance floor. Essentially, this place epitomizes traditional art deco design with classic cosmopolitan flare. South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center 10950 Southwest 211th Street Cutler Bay, FL 33189 (786) 573-5316 miamidadearts.org Beginning in October, the South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center will act as top-notch multidisciplinary venue. It will host everything from performing arts to political functions as well as educational endeavors and miscellaneous outreach programs. This futuristic facility stands true thanks to all of its groundbreaking, state-of-the-art engineering. The Center will be managed by the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and enjoyed by all South Florida residents. Rock Hard Taco 891 East Palmetto Park Road Boca Raton, FL 33432 (561) 393-8226 rockhardtaco.com Can you honestly think of a better combination than extreme sports and tacos? As Forest Gump once said, "they go together as well as peas and carrots." Created by SoCal transplant Steve Miller and legendary entrepreneur Elizabeth TenHouten Dobson, Rock Hard Taco attracts adrenalin junkies (skateboarders, surfers, skydivers, motocrossers, in particular) who crave authentic Mexican cuisine. Truly amazing items include their mahi mahi rock tacos and shredded pork burritos. *Open for breakfast too! MIAMI LIVING 25
