Gerard Butler relaxed on the beach after his NYE partying. 90210 babe AnnaLynne McCord went for a dip in the ocean while in town. Michael Phelps spent the beginning of 2009 under the sun on South Beach. The Steakhouse on South Beach. The Raleigh and Suzanne Bartsch's burlesque NYE affair was just the ticket for Calvin Klein, Patricia Field, Amanda Lepore, and designer Paul Jacober. Meanwhile, the Mondrian South Beach was the setting for a reported reunion of some sort between Miami Heat star Dwayne Wade and Gabrielle Union, who are said to have dined there before heading to The Florida Room to check out The Roots' performance. On New Year's Day, Solange Knowles happily showed off the tan she got at The Shore Club's pool when she and Jamie Foxx hosted a party at Karu&Y, and Jessica Simpson and boyfriend Tony Romo hit Prime 112 for a romantic meal pour deux. A few days later, my Olympic dreams became a reality when I ran into and gawked at met British swimmer Mark Foster at Lime. Google him — he is hot — and then you will understand. Other people's Olympic dreams also became a reality when another swimmer (an American this time), a pre-Bong-gate Michael Phelps, hung out and challenged Warren Sapp to swim a few laps in the pool atop the Gansevoort. Keeping things real — yeah, right — early in 2009 was Whitney Port, who basked under the sun at the Fontainebleau's pool while shooting her MTV reality show The City. Kevin James promoted his sleeper hit Paul Blart: Mall Cop at the Fontainebleau and attended the movie's premiere at the AMC Sunset Place. Former Destiny's Child member Kelly Rowland, Terrell Owens, and DJ Irie hit the premiere of Notorious at the Regal Cinemas South Beach 18. I sat at Café Prima Pasta's bar for a good 45 seconds before I even recognized Matt Damon, who was picking up some takeout — and even mistook him for a delivery guy. As you all may remember, Jessica Simpson came back to South Florida to perform at the 99.9 Kiss Country 24 th Annual Chili Cook Off in Pembroke Pines. And a series of mean fat jokes followed. A fresh-from-the-Inauguration Shakira came back home to Miami to celebrate her 32 nd birthday with family at RA Sushi in South Miami, while Mary Murphy (TV's So You Think You Can Dance) drank champagne and lived it up at one of Edison Farrow's Martini Tuesdays party at the Mondrian.
