Beaches, blockbusters, and bikinis— those are the three ingredients that make summer in Miami bearable, and according to our sources, The Raleigh Hotel is the place to go for two of those must-haves on July 15-19 for the annual Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim. Per tradition, the legendary South Beach hotel will serve as the headquarters for the hottest event of the season when leading swimwear designers showcase their latest creations, and beautiful female and male models rule the runway wearing next to nothing. Sounds like a fun, sexy time, if we ever heard of one…. As it celebrates its fifth edition in 2009, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim once again will become a hot-ticket vortex, sucking in insiders (including magazine editors, buyers, and retailers) and beach bunnies hoping to catch one of the hard-to- get-into shows. Celebrities like Kristin Cavallari, Billy Zane, singer Craig David, Richie Rich, Miami's own Elaine Lancaster, and Dennis Rodman, as well as Jessica Simpson, Kim Kardashian, and actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler cannot resist the event, as they have attended in years past. But—shocker!— I digress…. Showcasing local talent One of the designers who will show his 2010 collection during the sizzling week is Magic City-based Red Carter, who is looking forward to showing us his "flash." "The inspiration for 2010 is Pat Benatar- meets-Billie Holiday— it's a mixture of glam rock, with studded embellishments and extreme cutouts, and jazz elements, with clean and classic geometrics," he said.
