And since Star Sightings is all about living vicariously, let's remember the good, the bad, and the awesome. After all, 'twas the season…. Shortly before the holidays, Matt Damon hit the links in the Magic City, while Kevin Dillon (HBO's Entourage) hosted a BlackBerry party at Set, and a sneaky Serena Williams held court at her beau Common's Pepsi Proper- presented listening party for his latest album, Universal Mind Control, held at Louis at the Gansevoort South. As 2008 came to a close, our city began to heat up with star power — it was not just the unseasonably warm weather we had from Christmas Eve through Jan. 1. It was something else. A star of a rather decidedly different kind reportedly descended upon Jazid: Ingrid Betancourt, the Colombian- French politician, former senator, activist, and Nobel Peace Prize nominee who was kidnapped by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia in 2002 and rescued by Colombian security forces last July. Betancourt was in the audience cheering on her son and nephew, both of whom were performing with the local band Green Room. Brooke Hogan got down with her gays at one of the Penny Back Boyz's Sunday night Click parties at Aero Bar. Later in the season I spotted her shopping at Publix on the Bay, where she was super-nice to the deli people, and working out at Crunch.
