MIAMI LIVING 67 The interior will feature a chic mix of modern design and mid- century furnishings incorporating both city and shore style elements. And the front porch will recreate the feel of the quintessential Florida Room, complete with ceiling fans and live orchids. The store's centerpiece will be a 14-foot cylindrical fish tank with exotic fish from around the world, surrounded by a mirror and white marble countertop. The floors will mix terrazzo with nickel inlay and white resin, while white oak walls will reveal details with white tufted leather and hand- carved plaster relief panels. Mid-century lighting, tented macramé fitting rooms, and vintage nickel shelving are some of the details that will capture the "city and shore" design concept. In other words: prepare to be wowed. (City permit delays kept the store from opening in time for Basel, so one can imagine the extra time has come in handy.) The South Beach store also will have a unique addition in its back courtyard, a 700-square-foot surf shop, featuring men's and women's swim collections, graphic tees, vintage surfboards, and swim accessories. This landscaped area is ideal for customer-focused events complete with wine and champagne services. And if ML knows something it is that Miami loves a party— and now we can party Tommy Hilfiger-style. Supporting the arts But back to Hilfiger's Basel party…. The swanky soirée was one of the must-attend events of the week for Hilfiger's fellow fashion designers, Miami's own wunderkind Esteban Cortazar, who is now the head designer at Ungaro and Marc Jacobs, as well as for top art collectors. Also spotted at the party were Katie Lee Joel, Ingrid Casares, Cynthia Rodriguez, model Ryan Locke, and businessman Sanford Ziff. DJ Paul Sevigny kept everyone moving. "We're hosting this party and putting money into free arts," Hilfiger told us exclusively, "because we like to nurture young artists, Vanity Fair and I. It's important to us, and we've been doing it for years. It's a tradition for us that makes a difference in people's lives." The designer also told us he could not think of a better time to have the party than Basel. "I love coming to Miami and I love Basel," he said. "I'm a collector myself. I like going into the Miami Beach Convention Center and seeing so much art under one roof. It gives me an opportunity to see some of my customers, hang out on the beach, and have some great dinners…. " Upon departure, guests received a limited-edition tote featuring photographs by Jeremy Blake. A collaboration between Hilfiger and Free Arts NYC, the tote was the hit of the party. In Blake's honor, 100 percent of the proceeds from sales of the tote will fund a new FASHION EXCLUSIVE! Tommy Hilfiger with John Legend The Tommy Hilfiger Jeremy Blake Tote.
