How many people do you plan on accommodating? Is it primarily for family excursions? Or will you invite friends aboard? What can you afford? Don't forget to factor in additional costs for maintenance, insurance, registration fees, and instruction and safety course fees. As with cars, you wouldn't purchase a vehicle without first seeing if you like how it drives—same goes for boats. Make sure you're comfortable with it before you buy. Be a smart shopper.
