Gallery - VISU Contemporary Pari Dukovic Rises Through Movement VISU Contemporary presents RISE, a photographic exploration of ballet, before welcoming Surface Tension during Miami Art Week 2026. At VISU Contemporary in Miami Beach, photographer Pari Dukovic turns his lens toward ballet dancers, not simply as performance, but as an exploration of discipline, movement, and the pursuit of mastery. RISE, on view from October 15 through November 22, brings together photographs created while Dukovic documented the dancers of Miami City Ballet during the company’s 40th anniversary season. The exhibition examines what happens when years of physical training are distilled into moments that appear instinctive and effortless. At the center of the series is a contradiction inherent to ballet. Audiences see balance, precision, and bodies seemingly freed from gravity and made to look effortless. Behind those moments are years of repetition, correction, physical strain, and concentration. As Miami prepares for Art Week, VISU Contemporary will continue its exhibition program with Surface Tension, a group presentation opening November 27, 2026, and running through January 15, 2027. Bringing together an international selection of contemporary artists, the exhibition will showcase photography, sculpture, and mixed-media works, highlighting different approaches to materials, imagery, and artistic expression. Among the confirmed participants are Shahla Friberg, Alinka Echeverría, Tina Lechner, Rose Marie Cromwell, Adam Parker Smith, Fabio Viale, and collaborators Jen DeNike and Barbara von Portatius. David Weishaar and Nicola Bonadino are also confirmed for the exhibition. The presentation will feature a range of artistic approaches. Italian sculptor Fabio Viale creates works in marble with tattooed surfaces, challenging traditional expectations of the material. Adam Parker Smith’s sculptural contributions include works from his PolyChroma and Crushed series, while photographer Rose Marie Cromwell brings photography into a textile format through a large-scale quilt composed of photographic images. Elsewhere, Shahla Friberg’s mirrored wall sculptures introduce reflective surfaces into the exhibition, while Tina Lechner’s black-and-white photographs explore sculptural forms and the human figure. Alinka Echeverría’s work examines the relationship between photography, objects, and cultural narratives. Among the works being considered are photographs of vases incorporating photographic imagery, alongside a project recognizing the historically overlooked contributions of women to film editing, particularly the precise manual work involved in cutting and joining film strips. Collaborative collage works by Jen DeNike and Barbara von Portatius add another dimension to the presentation, bringing together imagery and layered compositions. Together, these works suggest an exhibition in which familiar materials and visual forms take on unexpected qualities. Marble becomes a surface for tattooing, photographs become textiles, and mirrors transform the relationship between artwork and viewer. Presented during one of Miami’s most significant cultural periods, Surface Tension will offer visitors an opportunity to explore contemporary artistic practices beyond the city’s major art fairs. While RISE examines the relationship between physical movement and photographic stillness, Surface Tension shifts attention toward the possibilities of materials, surfaces, and visual perception, extending VISU Contemporary’s exhibition program into Miami Art Week and the new year. RISE is on view at VISU Contemporary in Miami Beach through November 22, 2026. Surface Tension follows from November 27, 2026, through January 15, 2027.
