Located in the heart of Miami Design District, Uchi, meaning “house” in Japanese, has redefined the culinary landscape with its innovative fusion of global flavors and traditional Japanese cuisine. Founded by the esteemed James Beard Award-winning Chef Tyson Cole, Uchi offers a unique dining experience that combines elevated food and impeccable service. A Fusion of Culinary Cultures Uchi’s journey commenced in Austin, Texas, and quickly gained recognition for its unique take on Japanese cuisine. What distinguishes Uchi is the remarkable fact that, despite its name and primary menu focus, none of the three featured chefs have Japanese roots. Rather, the restaurant fully embraces a concept of “fusing global flavors with traditional Japanese cuisine.” This approach gives rise to a culinary exploration that combines surprising tastes and ingredients, coupled with creative and inventive plating. An Exquisite Culinary Journey The menu at Uchi is a testament to its culinary creativity, encompassing a wide range of options divided into ten categories. The offerings include omakase, cool tastings, hot tastings, yasaimono (vegetable dishes), agemono (fried dishes), makimono (rolls), sushi and sashimi, a bluefin selection, special dishes, delectable desserts, and a unique toyosu selection sourced directly from Japan. These diverse categories provide diners with a plethora of options, ensuring there’s something for everyone to savor. Elegance in Design Upon entering Uchi Miami, you’ll be struck by the restaurant’s elegant and expansive interior. With 175 seats available, Uchi is more spacious than one might anticipate from its unassuming exterior. The interior is thoughtfully divided into several private dining rooms, a sushi bar with seating, and a regular bar with a limited number of seats. The restaurant’s décor embodies the principles of Asian minimalism, featuring an array of natural materials, neutral colors, and a rich variety of textures. The incorporation of textile art further enhances the visual appeal of the space. Woven wall hangings by Miami textile designer Elan Byrd adorn the walls, adding an artistic touch to the ambiance.
