TRAVEL FEATURE From the East Coast to the West Coast –ML has the cities with the most Get Outta Town Words by Vanessa Pascale In a New York State of Mind At the mention of this city's appellation, I am persistently met with the resounding reaction, 'I love New York!' In my humble opinion, New York City's pulsating energy, and entirety, for that matter, reigns supreme. Songs have been penned about the city, movies continually romanticize it, and millions gravitate to this culturally-infused mecca just to sink their teeth into something as substance-sated as this (as Jay-Z put it) "concrete Jungle, where dreams are made of, there's nothing you can't do…" This fast-paced metropolis is always primed to play host, serving up first-class cuisine, rousing theater, endless cubbies of shopping, scintillating nightlife, mind-blowing art, and events that draw in the largest names in every medium out there. Like any adept host, New York City takes pride in presentation and delights in satiating its guests, a mindset that is only amplified during the holidays. There's no question about it, NYC loves the holidays and has created time- honored traditions that cause our hearts to grow three sizes: the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, the ornate department store window displays, Saks Fifth Avenue's "Carol of the Bells" light show, and its grand glittering tree in Rockefeller Center. Everything in the Big Apple is larger in scale —from its towering buildings that scrape the sky to the massive industries it feeds. This time of year, the city that never sleeps presents a wealth of festive activities —ice skating in Central Park on Wollman Rink, Radio City's Christmas Spectacular, and The New York Ballet's performance of George Balanchine's The Nutcracker (running from November 23 through December 30th ). As for accommodations, the options are as plenteous as the ubiquitous souvenir shops. Manhattan is rich in stately, landmark hotels like, The Plaza Hotel and Waldorf Astoria, and chic boutique retreats personalized to your preferences. ML MIAMI LIVING 81 Restaurant Honorable Mention: Café Un Deux Trois I stumbled upon the super cozy Café Un Deux Trois while staying across the street at Hotel Mela, and was thrilled to have found this gem. Located in Times Square at 123 (Un, deux, trois) West 44 St., this spacious café is drenched in exquisite, old world charm. I ordered the Crêpe Benedict –a creative spin on the traditional dish, with the usual ingredients wrapped in a warm, homemade crêpe and drizzled with velvety hollandaise sauce. The dish was beyond delicious, and the service was right on par. Lunch and dinner are also served and include savory dishes like Escargots de Bourgogne, Foie de Veau Aux Fines Herbes, and Boeuf Bourguignon.
