Athleisure has dominated street style for several years now, yet we don't talk about it from a fashion perspective. It might be good enough to wear while running errands, but it certainly shouldn't be promoted as a tried-and-true go-to look the same way jeans and a tee shirt are. Consider this the handbook for the rebellion, because let's face it, jeans will never be as comfortable as yoga pants. Ever. And athleisure is not going anywhere. Regardless of how or where you opt to rock your athleisure looks, it all starts with a good foundation. Personally, when it comes to the basics, SHAPE activewear hits the mark. With their pant options, you are able to utilize a pant or legging with a flattering fit and shape as a solid base for any athleisure look. They offer a range of capri and full-length pants that benefit whatever your needs are. Need something for cross training that is more breathable? They offer it in a wide range of color options. Need something a little more daily wear and less performance-based? They have that too, in loads of flattering cuts and colors. When it comes to athleisure, the pant is the base of the look, because it is the heart of what differentiates it from a casual jeans combo. Consider a long, patterned grey or black legging for a day spent running errands and a capri with color detailing when you're heading to and from yoga class. And don't underestimate joggers. They serve as perfect running-around-town trousers, or great post-workout cover-ups (in case you don't feel up to wearing your tiny gym shorts out). When it comes to summer athleisure trends, embrace the sheer offerings. Simply look up any Victoria Secret's Angel post-workout to get look book-level inspiration. The great thing about athleisure is the versatility that comes with layers. For pre- and post-workout, opt for performance ideal tops and lightweight jackets. Think a classic tank (the Summit Tank from SHAPE is a good start) or a fun sports bra (Kendall Jenner in Calvin Klein via Instagram comes to mind) layered with a baseball jacket or lightweight zip up. When it comes to heading out for the day, running errands, style up the look with cable knit performance wear, such as the Odyssey Pullover from SHAPE or the Odyssey Wrap serve as great layer pieces. Consider wearing the wrap with your favorite Anorak jacket or denim for a nice layer while grocery shopping. You can make your athleisure look very statement oriented by getting out of the box. Think joggers with your favorite graphic tee and leather jacket or opt for bright runners with your puffer vest and patterned leggings.
