The Dutch's E xecutive Chef Adonay Tafur, originally joined the W South Beach Hotel & Residences' dynamic food and beverage team in March 2014 as sous chef. Quickly rising in the kitchen ranks, Tafur was named executive sous chef within a few months, before eventually becoming executive chef in August 2015. A Brazilian native from Santa Catarina, Tafur moved to Bogota, Colombia at a young age before coming to the United States when he was 16 years old. Af ter graduating high school in South Florida in 2004, the aspiring toque traveled to Spain, where he began to hone his culinar y craf t at a series of internships at Michelin star restaurants Restaurante Aizian Bilbao and Restaurante Andra Mari Galdakao-Bizkaia. Tafur continued to per fect his skills under Michelin star recipient Chef Ruben Mata at Next Door Tapas Lounge in Los Angeles and Michelin star Restaurante Tragabuches in Spain; before returning to South Florida as chef tournant of Casa Tua Restaurant in November 2007. One year later, an of fer to help open Gotham Steakhouse at Fontainebleau Miami Beach gave Tafur the oppor tunit y to work alongside culinar y giant and James Beard Award- winning Chef Alfred Por tale. As sous chef of the famed South Beach eater y, he assisted in earning rave reviews from The Miami Herald and Miami New Times. Following his success at Gotham Steakhouse, Tafur was invited to re-join Por tale and his culinar y team at Michelin star recipient – Gotham Bar and Grill in New York Cit y in October 2011. While in New York Cit y, he helped the acclaimed dining destination earn five consecutive glowing reviews from the New York Times as well as a James Beard Award for Outstanding Restaurant in the Nation. Tafur is a regular par ticipant in some of the most popular gastronomic events in the countr y, including the New York Wine & Food Festival, Food Net work and Cooking Channel South Beach Wine & Food Festival, James Beard Foundation and Taste of the Nation, among others.
