Working with family can be tough, but these two brothers have found the perfect balance to create music that the world loves. "It's always great to work with family, because we can always be honest with each other," explains Dimitri. "We are straight forward and say what we think— whether you like something or you don't like something. We give each other space to do what we are good at, and we try to complete each other at work." They have managed to split the work in a way that best suits each of their personalities. "Mike likes being in the studio from morning to evening if you let him. I am more the guy who finishes the projects on the deadline, you know?" jokes Dimitri. The duo has found great success across the globe, dominating the electronic music scene. Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike are currently on tour selling out arenas and performing in front of thousands of partygoers in the U.S., Brazil, Mexico, Europe, and Asia. Last year, their solo-show in Germany marked a record for this duo, with an impressive 45,000 fans in attendance. Together, they create great music, and have been recognized for their great talent. In 2015, DJ Mag named Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike the No.1 global DJ—they're the first duo to ever hold that title. Born in Belgium, the Thivaios brothers grew up close to where Tomorrowland, a renowned, annual electronic music festival, is held. Today, the duo holds an official residency there—and have for the past few years—on the main stage of the prestigious festival attended by hundreds of thousands of fans every year. "It's an amazing community. It's a big honor that the Tomorrowland guys put so much trust in us so many years ago, to be part of that story and help build the whole Tomorrowland footprint," says Dimitri. Performing at Tomorrowland is unlike any other experience Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike have had. "For us it's like when a football team plays in their hometown…like a homecoming. To have our Belgian fans there, our friends, and our families is amazing. We have a huge following in Belgium, and to unite all of them at Tomorrowland is amazing," says Dimitri. Currently on tour, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike are busy, and jetlagged. "My least favorite part of being on tour is the traveling," Dimitri chuckleds "We were away from home for about six weeks, and sometimes it can be a little exhausting, but it's great to visit so many places and so many fans. No complaints here, we love what we do and we hope to do it for a long time." Before the big stages and the raging fans, Dimitri built his DJing career in Ibiza. "In the early 2000s, when I was working as a DJ in Ibiza and still playing with vinyls and I saw what Erick Morillo was doing with CD players—looping and all that crazy stuff— it made me throw out my vinyl players and start working with CDs and CD players. For me, this was a big turning point in my career," says Dimitri. Today, the duo continues to make music that fans are raving about. It's no surprise that when they released "Hey Baby," a remix of Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Diplo (feat. Deb's Daughter) and hip-hop artist Kid Ink, that the animated music video quickly garnered millions of views on YouTube. "We wrote and directed the video ourselves. We came up with a story to tell a little bit of our favorite TV series and movies," explains Dimitri. "Diplo is an amazing talent and a great guy, and we are really happy with the results of 'Hey Baby' —it was great working with him." Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike have collaborated with a number of high-profile artists, including Lady Gaga, Ne-Yo, and Pitbull. One day, Dimitri hopes to collaborate with Eminem. Though Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike have performed all around the world, Miami will always hold a special place in their hearts. It was in Miami that they received the Best DJ award in 2015, and Miami is where the duo played their first show in the United States. "It was an eternity ago," says Dimitri. "Miami has the people, the culture, the food, the beach. For me, it's the closest you get to Europe, the South of Europe —New York is more like the North of Europe, and Miami is the South." When Dimitri is not on tour or in the studio, he's exploring a new passion: acting. "I'm following acting lessons and [have a] dialect coach. I would love to do movies," he says enthusiastically. "Should the opportunities arise, I would be down." ML For more information and dates of upcoming shows, visit www.dimitrivegasandlikemike.com.
