Dining Asia de Cuba Words by Martin Haro When Morgans Hotel Group needed a restaurant to anchor its recently opened Mondrian South Beach, it once again turned to restaurateur Jeffrey Chodorow, with whom it launched the highly anticipated Asia de Cuba on South Beach. Asia de Cuba's sixth outpost is a minimalist, predominantly white, sun-kissed instant hot spot. Asia de Cuba features a creative menu that combines the best Asian and Latin flavors. The restaurant's appetizers include tunapica, a tuna tartare picadillo-style with Spanish olives, black currants, almonds, and coconut with a soy-lime vinaigrette and served on wonton crisps; and an Asian spiced pork spare ribs, served with a sweet soy glaze with a roasted corn-avocado salad and red onion escabeche. Entrées include a Cuban BBQ chicken with Thai coconut sticky rice, avocado fruit salsa, and tamarind sauce; and a palomillo of marinated lamb, pan-seared with sofrito of stir-fried peppers, onions, and Japanese eggplant. Asia de Cuba at the Mondrian South Beach is located at 1100 West Ave. in Miami Beach. It is open daily for breakfast, lunch (11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.), and, dinner (Sunday through Thursday, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, from 6 p.m. to midnight).
