MIAMI LIVING 99 The Closing Night Awards Gala and is slated for Sunday, April 19, at the Colony, followed by a special musical event and party. (An embargo prevented Dobson from sharing with Miami Living MLGFF's opening and closing selections as of press time.) MLGFF will run a Best of the Fest aside simultaneously with the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, and will contribute part of the proceeds from its closing night to Care Resource, Florida's one source for HIV/AIDS treatment. For more information about MLGFF, visit www.cineflorida.com. Last but certainly not least, the 11 th Annual Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival is set for April 24-May 3, with an Opening Night Gala at the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts in Downtown Miami, and the majority of programming playing at the Regal South Beach 18. As of press time, no information was available. And in the spirit of full disclosure, yours truly had not been invited to participate in the film selection as a member of the program committee. But if past experience should serve as any indication, MGLFF, and the second Fort Lauderdale Gay & Lesbian Film Festival on May 1-3, will once again offer members of the GLBT community the very best in gay cinema, trust. Expect some stars as well: In 2008, the festival attracted Sharon Gless (Showtime's Queer as Folk, USA Network's Burn Notice), who on Day 1 helped get the party started, Jay McCarroll (Bravo's Project Runway), who premiered Eleven Minutes, Jennifer Tilly, who attended the 10-year anniversary screening of Relax…It's Just Sex, and Nichelle Nichols, who supported Tru Loved. Indeed, says MGLFF's incoming program director Kareem Tabsch, "We are excited about the slate of fantastic films for 2009. These films will represent a cross-section of the global GLBT experience, and allow us all to connect through the commonality of our joys and struggles."
