We Want More! What philosophy do you live by? "I like: Try and find your happiness, but never hurt anyone on your way to it. There's so many depending on the day. I think: Work hard. Sometimes you need to just think about yourself a little bit more and take care of yourself before you start taking care of others, that way you're good, and when you do it for others, you don't forget about yourself." Who is your biggest role model? "Oh, my mom. Definitely. She's my best friend. I always call her every time I have a problem or an issue. I'm an only child. She's my everything." What do you think fans would be surprised to find out about you? "I travel with a Minnie Mouse. She's like the perfect pillow, it's a little embarrassing but she's just perfect to travel with," she says of the comfortable sleep-aid. "Fans don't know, but I'm starting to get gray hairs, like my mother," she laughs. How does Shadowhunters differ from telenovelas? "In telenovelas, you're actually shooting like fifty scenes a day, and then a series you shoot about four scenes a day. You have to use a little thing in your ear, so in novellas they tell you your lines –there's so much dialogue [that] you need someone to kinda remind you what you're saying 'cause you're moving at a very fast pace. It's a three-camera setup in novellas, and in a series, it's a lot slower." Do you feel like telenovelas made you better prepared for Shadowhunters? "Yeah, I think everything in life prepares you to where you're headed… Nowadays, telenovelas are not being overly-dramatic anymore…. millennials like to see more realistic things on TV. I think I went in right when that was happening, so I didn't learn the overly-dramatic acting you see on the novella side. But just being there made me push myself to want more, to say I can do this... I want to represent Latinas and Middle Eastern women," says the half- Lebanese, half-Mexican American actress. "I wanna try to be as positive as I can for young girls that look up to me and kinda have a voice for them so they can feel proud."
