the show," says Emeraude, who understands the responsibility that rests on her shoulders playing this role and is dedicated to ensuring that the fans get what they want. "We have very talented fans," she coos. "Their artwork is beautiful… The first time I went to Comic-Con here in New York, the fans were crying, saying how certain stories helped them either come out to their families or how certain characters just make them feel beautiful, make them feel empowered," she says with a big smile. The fame Emeraude has received from Shadowhunters has brought on myriad of new opportunities, like People en Español's 20th anniversary of "The Most Beautiful" cover alongside Marjorie De Sousa, Romeo Santos, Esmeralda Pimentel, Francisca Lachapel, Lineisy Montero, and Carmen Villalobos —big celebrities and new faces from the worlds of music, movies, television, and the runway. "When you're a little girl, you always dream of being [on it], especially with my Latin background…that was the magazine we used to see at home. To be on the cover, on my first issue, is just like a dream come true. My mom was so proud." Emeraude sees the cover as a "reward" for all her hard work and sacrifices, she tells me. Her dedication to her career has resulted in her missing a list of special events like friends' baby showers and weddings. Being away from her family in Brownsville has been the most challenging adjustment she has had to make. The distance has given her a newfound appreciation for Facetime and texting. Filming on location also means time away from her boyfriend Latin popstar, Prince Royce. Are you both based in Los Angeles? "He has several houses all over the world," she laughs. "I guess you can call my home base L.A… It's been really crazy, because I don't even know how, like everywhere I show up [to], he tends to be there." She smiles widely at the thought of destiny working in their favor. "When you're with that person you love, it's making sure you take the time and dedication —and always doing fun things together." The couple like to make their time together memorable with magical experiences like skydiving or hot air ballooning –which help them maintain their relationship while they're apart. This summer, Emeraude hopes to do some traveling while on hiatus –possibly a vacation in Italy, a trip to Mexico to see her family. "Honestly, when you're away from family, you just want to be with your family," she says excitedly, "It's what gives me the energy to like, feel good, feel safe." What she could really use is some of her family's home cooking. "When I go to my mom's house and my grandma's house and she's cooking for me, it's authentic food. In Mexico… they're not processed, it's from the ranch and that's what you're eating," she says passionately. Also, on her summer wishlist: a dip into the rom-com pool, adding that she'd especially love to work with actors Steve Carell and Ryan Gosling. She also admires Jennifer Lopez, and loves all her movies. I can definitely see Emeraude in a Monster- in-Law type film. "I've met her before. She is the coolest girl ever. She doesn't age. I'm always so embarrassed to ask her, What are your beauty tricks? Please. I want to look like you. You look younger than me," she giggles. With the long days she has been working, Emeraude could definitely use some low-key days. In her downtime, she enjoys core power yoga and likes taking fun classes, like sushi- making and bring-your-own-wine painting. The actress would much rather chill at home and watch movies in bed than go out. "I'm not much of a party girl. The cast hates me because I'm always the first one to leave a party when we're all hanging out together. But I love them so much, I just get tired really fast. I get sleepy.
