ML EXCLUSIVE: MIAMI’S 2010 HOME DESIGN & REMODELING SHOW Home Design & Remodeling Show Rock Your Home Revamp Miami’s 2010 Words by Marta A. Oppenheimer The excitement a child feels roaming free through FAO Schwarz or inside Willy Wonka’s famous chocolate factory is the same as what homeowners experience gallivanting through the aisles of the Home Design & Remodeling Show. Instead of Teddy Bears or chocolate bars, this is the place where homeowners stroll through aisle after aisle filled with home improvement and decorating ideas and get some child-like thrills of their own. Anything and everything home-related can be found in the hundreds of booths at this event. When it comes to aesthetics from the whimsical to the elegant, there are booths with ideas and items. Oversized pillows in the shape of pigs, cows, and penguins wait to give a bedroom a playful look. Giant crystal chandeliers turn light into rainbow-colored sparkles, bringing visions of old Hollywood movies to a living room. Walls will never be naked again. There are plenty of framed prints available for sale. All tastes in art are satisfied: modern, abstract, realistic, or perhaps a framed photograph —all is possible at the Home Design & Remodeling Show. Tired of looking at old floors? Acquire an elegant carpet to cover them or throw caution to the wind and invest in entirely new flooring. Be adventurous! Tackle a big project! Renovate the kitchen or that old bathroom left behind by the 70’s. There are seminars that help with the choice of cabinets, appliances, sinks, and tiles. No need to look at the faded avocado green linoleum anymore. The future is right here. Add a Spa and scented candles (yes, there are even candles at this show) for those romantic nights with the spouse. Make a less bold move in order to keep romance alive with new Egyptian cotton sheets. Cleopatra’s luxury right there on your bed. Go Green! The options are endless, water heaters, energy saving appliances, home insulation, and even energy consultants waiting to direct homeowners to the “green” way. Hurricane season in Florida will never be the same with new safe and pretty storm windows. All worries are gone. Do not allow the next-door neighbor to win this holiday’s best decorated house on the block. Plan ahead. Bring an oversized Santa home. Place Christmas trees made entirely of lights that twinkle pink, green, or purple, on the front lawn. Take home this year’s trophy. Party galore! How cool would it be to have a Chickee Hut in the backyard? Find out, and become the most popular person in town. Do not forget the patio furniture and a water fountain for the guests that just want to relax. Relive the 80’s, those youthful days spent at the mall’s video arcade are today’s reality. Centipede and Mrs. Pac Man could be in the next room. This is a great idea for the entire family. Just remember to occasionally share Galaga with the kids. Do not be selfish. Play nice.
