Scope Miami Beach 2018 BRINGING BACK ROOM ART TO CENTER STAGE In the early 90s, Alexis Hubshman was a New York City artist making a living entrepreneurially. Independent from galleries, he had his own collectors. During this time, he realized there wasn't any infrastructure in place for emerging artists. On the off chance a blue chip gallery was showing younger artists, their work was displayed in the back room. Back then, even fewer artists were being presented at art fairs. Not long after he was taking his own clients to these back rooms, he and a collector of his came up with the idea to start a new kind of gallery— the kind of gallery that brought back room-art to the main stage.
