Design Miami THE GLOBAL FORUM FOR DESIGN | DEC 5–9, 2018 Design Miami/ is the foremost gathering of connoisseurs of collectible design that mirrors the city of Miami Beach in its energy. Meticulously crafted exhibitions, creative collaborations, and key relationships bring the tent to life each December. Design Miami/ has grown over the past fourteen years from the historic Moore Building in the Miami Design District to a 70,000-square-foot, custom-built tent in Miami Beach. Next year, with the commencement of Design Miami/ 2019, the land the tent resides on will be a permanent public park. Returning for its fourteenth edition from December 5–9, with preview day December 4th, the 2018 show features an exceptional lineup of thirty-four exhibitions from twelve countries. Exhibiting founding galleries include, Cristina Grajales Gallery, LAFFANOUR–Galerie Downtown, Galerie Patrick Seguin, and Magen H Gallery. Newcomers to Miami Beach include, Functional Art Gallery, Etage Projects, John Keith Russell, and SIDE Gallery. The Curio program returns for the fifth time with twelve new presentations. Curio exhibitions are small-scale, immersive installations presented by brands, galleries, and designers alongside the gallery program. The 2018 Design Miami/ Visionary Award recipients are artist Pedro Reyes and fashion designer Carla Fernández. The annual award is given to creative talents across all fields that engage with design who have made significant contributions to the field of design. Reyes and Fernández, who are married, will collaborate on an exhibition at Design Miami/, continuing their commitment to leveraging their practices to advance social justice. To acknowledge the fifty-year anniversary of the May 1968 Paris protests, they have created a visual identity for Design Miami/ that captures the spirit and energy of that moment by referencing the incredible visual language of its protest signs and posters. The 2018 Design Miami/ Visionary Award is co-presented by Design Miami/'s official university partner, Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). Following its debut at the fair, the exhibition will travel to the SCAD Museum of Art in February 2019. Additional, not-to-miss highlights at the 2018 edition include, the Talks program supported by Kohler, Lexus, Sapir, and Therme Group, in a space designed by the much-lauded architect Francis Kéré as well as innovative collaborations and satellites from global brands, including Fendi––who celebrates ten years with Design Miami/––Perrier-Jouët, Officine Panerai, Louis Vuitton, Grand Seiko, Lexus, and more.
