The menu is thoughtfully curated by executive chef Drew Andrade and features a range of dishes, such as sushi, sashimi, dim sum, and signatures like Peking Duck, made with a contemporary approach to preparation and presentation; go-to staple Fried Rice with seafood, chicken, pork and beef options; and a delicious Tanuki Burger with tuna and crispy rice. In addition to an impressive sake and wine list, unique Asian- inspired cocktails served in custom-made, conversation–worthy ceramic drinking vessels perfectly complement the cuisine. Adding to an already stand-out menu, Tanuki recently launched their own dim sum service, making it one of a very few restaurants on Miami Beach with this classic Chinese offering. Chef Andrade takes a modern twist on the usual dim sum go-to items by implementing unexpected ingredients, including foie gras and shaved truffle. Tanuki's dim sum is served from customary carts and is meant to be shared, making the restaurant the perfect gathering place for larger groups preparing for a night on the town or for family gatherings and celebrations. The menu includes 9 signature à la carte dim sum dishes with highlights like Chicken Truffle Siu Mai, Peking Duck Dumpling, Mushroom and Potato, and Beef & Foie Gras Dumpling, starting at $12. For those on the hunt for the perfect place to imbibe and de-stress after work or to refresh after a long day on the beach, guests can enjoy a variety of snacks and adult beverages —between $5-10, including beer, sake and cock tails— during hour, every day from 5 to 7 pm. Snacks start at $5 and include Tuna Crispy Rice with spicy mayo and scallion, Chicken Wings with sweet and sour barbecue sauce, and a selection of Pork Belly Fuku Bun, Salmon, or Wagyu Tacos. Dim sum bites are available at $7 for three pieces. The restaurant's name itself lends to the team's philosophy on hospitality. As the story goes, Tanuki is a magical shape- shifting raccoon-fox with an interest in encouraging generosity and cheerfulness among its beloved guests. Boasting supernatural powers, he has reformed from his mischievous tendencies into a benevolent rascal that represents good luck, prosperity, and success. Tanuki figures are found throughout Japan, especially in and around restaurants where they beckon drinkers and diners to enter and enjoy life through food and beverage. In Miami Beach, the restaurant proudly displays a prominent sculpture in its center. The sculpture features a big belly, signifying bold and calm decision-making; a big tail, symbolizing steadiness and strength; big eyes, indicating the capability to judge the environment and make good decisions; a structured hat, representing readiness and protection against the bad weather/bad times; and a friendly smile, offering a welcoming attitude toward customers. The surrounding interior décor, featuring bright colors and murals by renowned graffiti artist, Andrew Antonaccio reflects the fun and charismatic attitude of its muse. ML Tanuki is located at 1080 Alton Road, Miami Beach, FL 33139, is open daily for happy hour, dinner, and late-night from 5:00 pm-11:00 pm, and for lunch on Friday-Sunday from 12 pm-3 pm. The restaurant also offers delivery by phone and an online ordering system. For more information, visit: www.tanukimiami. com or call 305-615-1055.
