Katherine got her first taste of acting when she was asked to participate in a play in her hometown. "I will never forget the moment I stepped on that stage opening night. As cheesy as it may sound, I had a complete moment of clarity. I give full credit to the Kansas City theater community," she remembers. Shortly after, Katherine met someone from New York City, who had her audition for Broadway. "I said yes to the audition without ever going to New York City before. And then, I was getting the call to spend weeks upon weeks there." She'd landed her first role as Fredrika Armfeldt in Broadway's A Little Night Music, opposite Catherine Zeta-Jones and Angela Lansbury at the age of 13, and continued on as Fredrika with the second ALNM Broadway cast, which included Bernadette Peters and Elaine Stritch. Her theater credits include, A Christmas Story, the Musical!, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Crucible, Inherit the Wind, Annie, The Secret Garden, and Galileo. At the age of 14, Katherine graduated with honors from high school, and decided to branch out to television. She ended up with a screen test in Los Angeles for Disney Channel, and ended up on Girl VS. Monster, Jessie, and Kickin' It. "It was definitely different than I expected. Something I've learned from moving around is that you have to just go with the flow. Bloom where you're planted." You may also recognize her from a string of T V shows, including, Glee, The Fosters and Happyland or the Maze Runner franchise: The Scorch Trials and The Death Cure. Katherine went on to graduate summa cum laude from Drexel University's Le Bow School of Business, with a degree in business and an emphasis in finance, at just 17. Then, in 2015, she landed the coveted role of Clary Fray in the book-to-screen adaptation of The Mortal Instruments, Shadowhunters. The series follows Clary, who finds out that she comes from a long line of Shadowhunters, human-angel hybrids who hunt demons, on her 18th birthday. "You audition for so many things as an actor; 90% of the time you forget the character once you leave the room. But I instantly connected with Clary. Freeform took a chance on me and everyone was open to me taking on this character. I didn't even find out I booked the part until 10 minutes before it was announced on Twitter. I remember being nervous wondering what all of the die-hard fans of the series would think. Is she a good Clary? Does she look the part? Will she screw this up?" Last month, Shadowhunters received a People's Choice Award for T V Show of 2018, while Katherine accepted the People's Choice Award for Female T V Star of 2018. For three incredible seasons, Shadowhunters has kept Freeform viewers on the edge of their seats. This June, it was announced that the show had been cancelled. According to Deadline. com, "The decision to cancel the series was 'purely economic,' said Karey Burke, EVP, Programming and Development." Even though they "very happy creatively with it." The
