ON THE SCENE MIAMI LIVING 31 Last February, DCOTA hosted its annual "Winter Market" event. Attracting nearly 200 hundred design professionals, enthusiasts, and media insiders, it featured two days of design demonstrations and discussions by legendary designers, editors and industry icons. The who's who of interior design showed up to present on their latest projects, industry trends, and product lines. Guest speakers included design legends Barry Darr Dixon, Bunny Williams, Mario Buatta, Marjorie Reed Gordon and Richard Keith Langham. When not sitting in on discussions by industry icons, guests perused the latest collections by world class brands, designers, and manufacturers at numerous open house showrooms throughout DCOTA. One highlight of Winter Market was the presentation of DCOTA's 2015 "Stars of Design" and "Stars on the Rise" awards ceremony, hosted by Charles Cohen, who handed out the prestigious crystal trophies to the seven Stars of Design award recipients, including Deborah Wecselman, Bruce Brosch, Adler Guerrier, Ken Pao, Carlos Suarez, W. Christian Busk and Courtney Crown. This year's "Stars on the Rise" awards went to designers Jay Britto, Sandra Diaz- Velasco and Cristina Villalon. DCOTA's prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to the legendary Paige Rense, Editor Emeritus of Architectural Digest. As editor in chief of the magazine for 40 years, Paige grew the publication from a circulation of less than 50,000 to 850,000.
