Her perspective as a cancer survivor also shaped the product’s purpose. After being diagnosed with Malignant Melanoma at age 25, she says the experience reinforced the importance of acting without hesitation. “I had absolutely nothing to lose and invented something at least I knew I would love,” she says, describing how that period influenced her decision to move forward with the idea. Beyond the applicator, the company’s washable mitts are designed for repeated use, offering an alternative to disposable options. “My mitts are hand crafted and I tested and selected very distinct materials that would withstand multiple washings,” she explains. The design allows the mitts to be used both with and without the applicator while maintaining durability over time. Customer feedback has played a central role in the product’s evolution. D’Alfonso recalls stories from users with limited mobility and chronic pain. “She was in tears telling me this product changed her life and absolutely loved it,” she says, describing one elderly customer who struggled with arthritis and daily routines. While early prototypes drew mixed reactions, those moments helped refine the final design. “My first prototype did not look good but it was functional,” she says, recalling how feedback pushed her to improve both form and usability.
