Solo Beauty Founder Kathe D’Alfonso Turns Personal Frustration Into a Tool for Independent Skincare What began as a personal challenge with everyday skincare routines led Kathe D’Alfonso to develop a solution aimed at independence and accessibility. As the founder of Solo Beauty (www.solobeautyroc.com), she set out to solve a persistent problem: applying sunscreen and lotions to hard to reach areas without assistance. D’Alfonso says the idea came after repeated frustration with products that failed to provide full coverage, especially on her back. “I was disappointed with a lot of products I tried to apply sunscreen, lotions, etc. they never reached all of my back plus the hard spots,” she says. Rather than relying on others, she began building prototypes for a tool that could extend reach while remaining easy to use. “My objective was to apply sunscreen, self-tanners, and any lotions without always asking my husband so I came up with an invention and made prototypes,” she adds. That process led to multiple iterations over three years and eventually to a patented design granted in the United States. The company name reflects the core concept behind the product. “Solo, taking care of yourself, and Beauty because it was skincare,” she explains, describing how the brand aligns with independence and personal care.
