Its history traces back over 2,000 years, initially inhabited by the Celtic tribe of the Allobroges before evolving into a Roman settlement in the 1st century BC. In the 20th century, Geneva emerged as a prominent center for international diplomacy and peacekeeping, hosting significant conferences and serving as the headquarters of the United Nations. Geneva holds a longstanding tradition of watchmaking, dating back to the 16th century. Some of the most esteemed watchmakers, including Baume and Mercier, Chopard, Franck Muller, Patek Philippe, Rolex, Vacheron Constantin, and Frédérique Constant, have established their headquarters in the city. Annually, Geneva attracts the global jewelry industry for GemGenève, held in November. Not to be missed is Geneva’s Old Town, Switzerland’s largest historic city, offering medieval charm centered around St. Pierre’s Cathedral, a key site of the Reformation. Climb its tower for a panoramic view, then wander through narrow streets revealing Geneva’s history and secret passageways.
