Miami has a new It Girl in town and her name is [sweatlana]. She's strong, sleek, and will get you into the best shape of your life. Want to meet her? Then head to [solidcore], a new fitness studio that opened this March here in Miami (Midtown 5, 3201 NE 1st Avenue, Miami, FL 33137). A favorite workout of Michelle Obama, [solidcore] is a 50-minute, Pilates-inspired workout emphasizing slow, deliberate, movements on a device called [sweatlana]. By leveraging spring cables for resistance (between 2 and 300 pounds) and an almost glacial pace, [solidcore] is a high intensity, low impact, workout that will test the fittest of Miami. "As we open new studios down the East Coast, Miami was a natural progression for us," says Anne Mahlum, founder and CEO of [solidcore]. "I am so excited to bring [solidcore] to South Florida, where it is beach season year-round, and locals seem to have the motivation to stay fit 12 months of the year. I can't wait for Miami to meet [sweatlana] and see what she's made of." An intensified version of Pilates, with [solidcore], each action is slow and controlled, but with quick transitions to ensure muscles maximum time under tension. 95% of [solidcore] exercises require stabilization from the rest of the body to perform them. This makes the workout more efficient and effective by requiring secondary/stabilizing muscle groups to be active while targeting a specific muscle group. Every muscle group worked on [sweatlana] is taken to muscle failure. Failure is success at [solidcore]. The intense workout is taught by highly-skilled, certified [solidcore] coaches, who lead clients through hundreds of moves and resistance options to consistently challenge the body, meaning every workout is different in order to keep the body guessing. The new Miami studio has 11 machines, allowing for [solidcore] coaches to pay close attention to clients as they guide the class through a full body workout that forces muscles to rebuild in a stronger and more sculpted way. Clients come from all walks of life, from professional athletes and weekend warriors, to stay-at- home moms, CEOs and the former First Lady. [solidcore] is the brainchild of North Dakota native Anne Mahlum, a fitness fanatic (she started the national nonprofit Back on My Feet, which began as a running club for people experiencing homelessness), who used to train for marathons (11 so far), but gave it up because she was getting injured every six months. Since founding [solidcore], not only is Anne incredibly fit, she hasn't been injured a day since. [solidcore] is only 4 years old, but has rapidly grown to 29 studios in 13 states with Miami being studio 31. By the end of 2018, [solidcore] will have 50 studios.
