Working with the Greats Over the years, you've worked with Bette Midler, Nicole Kidman, Natalie Portman, did you learn anything from them along the way? "I'd like to think that every single one of them have somewhat crafted me into little pieces of who I am today." Is there anyone who stands out? "Adam [Sandler] immediately —what I love are two things: he always took care of his crew. That's really important to me, now that I've stepped behind the camera. It's really rare. He brought everyone to Hawaii. He took care of them…that's just the definition, to me, of a really respectful person in this industry. As well as the fact that his family was there... and to be a good dad and a good husband. That was something really enjoyable for me to watch, that I learned from. I think I will take with me as I grow older in this business, Lord willing. Bette Midler was a walking encyclopedia of knowledge. She knows everything about anything... I really feel like I was just a big, old sponge and I've tried to soak up as much as I can —even silent things, just watching them I've learned so much. Billy Crystal, at the end of Parental Guidance, gave me a locket with a key and it had my birthstone on it and he said, 'There's many doors to unlock in this business, in your life. You've unlocked a lot of them but there are so many more to go and I need you to not be afraid to unlock them.' I remember tearing up. It was lot for a 12-year-old to handle, I was like, 'This is amazing.' And I've listened to that advice every single day now. It's like, 'OK, unlock that door, let's see what it has to offer.'"
