Tennis Stars + Gourmet Cuisine Citi Taste of Tennis returns to Miami with headlining chef, Michelle Bernstein Words by Rutika Raikar Foodies and tennis fans, rejoice! Citi Taste of Tennis, a premiere food tasting and tennis celebration, is returning to Miami on Monday, March 19th to kick off the Miami Open. The event promises guests an unforgettable experience of mingling with their favorite tennis players and savoring a wide array of cuisine prepared by the area's leading chefs. The excitement takes place on the breathtaking 50th floor rooftop lounge at W Miami. Michelle Bernstein, a Citi Taste of Tennis regular and this year's headlining chef, brings zesty flavors and a colorful flair to her dishes! The South Florida native and the owner of Crumb on Parchment had a candid conversation about growing up in Miami, being a woman in business, tennis, food and prepping for yet another exciting year at Citi Taste of Tennis. Michelle recalls how amazing it was growing up in South Florida: she never wore shoes, ate fruit from trees growing in her backyard, visited farmers markets, and played outside until the sun went down. "The beach was packed on Christmas Day. For a $20-day pass at the Fountainebleau, you could use the pool, eat at their restaurants, and sip Piña Coladas." Today, you can find Michelle enjoying walks around Brickell Center, listening to live salsa, and sipping on Cuban coffee, which she says tastes like candy. While watching tennis matches, Michelle enjoys nibbling on raw veggies with green goddess dressing. And speaking of food and tennis, she just loves how the two come together at the Citi Taste of Tennis. "I love the concept of combining tennis with food…they are my two greatest passions. And having the opportunity to participate in this event, and rub elbows with Miami's top chefs and the world's greatest tennis players is amazing." Being a successful businesswoman in the culinary world, Michelle expressed that it is a very challenging job. She encourages more women to strive to be the leaders in the industry. "Expect only the best of yourself. Don't wait for anyone to push you, you have to push yourself and always do the very best you can." Michelle advises aspiring female entrepreneurs to not take "no" for an answer. Michelle Bernstein - Photo credit: Michael Pisarri
