From the window seat on Tropic Ocean Airways' first-class service from downtown Miami's Watson Island, I watch the 11-passenger Cessna Grand Caravan gather speed parallel to MacArthur Causeway and soar passed swanky Fisher Island and bustling South Pointe. Soon, we are nearly 5,000-feet high with Miami Beach's Art Deco hotels and crowded beachfront in the background. Several freighters and motorboats below are plowing through the azure Gulf Stream waters. The waves undulate in a steady rhythm of patterns both intricate and hypnotic to watch. After a quick half-hour steering, the islands of Bimini break the horizon like colorful, oblong jewels. The pilot maneuvers a slow, semi-circle turn on North Bimini's lee side before the pontoons make contact and glide us over the surface to the dockage area of the 750-acre Resorts World Bimini, operated by the Malaysia-based Genting Group.
