Clubs Tobacco Road Words by Marla E. Schwartz If you want a real taste of a traditional Miami watering hole, with delicious food and excellent blues and Jazz music, look no further than Tobacco Road— also known as a gambling den, gay bar, strip joint, speakeasy. During Prohibition it was fronted as a bakery. In fact, there's a secret room hidden behind a bookshelf on the second floor that was used to hide the liquor. The Road has also been known as the Chicken Roost, Chanticleer Restaurant, and Shandiclere. In 1982, the current owners Michael Latterner and Patrick Gelber purchased the property and now Tobacco Road is a popular hangout with professionals, celebrities, and tourists. It offers live music every day of the week, sponsors the Medical Marijuana and the Kryptonite Musical Festivals, and Blues artist Poppa E. performs every Friday night. There's nothing better than listening to fantastic live music as you chomp on a Classic Road Burger, Cowboy Burger, or Death Burger. For more information on Tobacco Road's daily food and drink specials, visit: www.tobacco-road.com; call: (305) 374-1198; or head on over to 626 S. Miami Ave. ML pick nightclub
