Across the street sits the former Alcazar Hotel, also built by Henry Flagler. When opened in 1889, the hotel featured the world's largest indoor swimming pool, a gymnasium and spa, a bowling alley, and a bicycle academy. Today, the Alcazar is home of Lightner Museum where Otto Lightner's (founder of Hobby Magazine) collections of fine and decorative arts from the 19th century is on display and the Café Alcazar, located in the former swimming pool, serves elegant lunches daily. The nearby Casa Monica Hotel, built in 1889 in the Moorish revival-style architecture, still operates as a fine hotel and continues to welcome discriminating guests from around the world. There are dozens of ways to explore the city: sightseeing trolley, horse and carriage, electric car… Walking tours are plentiful, and St. Augustine's guides are passionate about their city. Each is a talented storyteller, who provides insight into the city's colorful past. Across the Matanzas Bay on Anastasia Island, sits Florida's oldest attraction: the Alligator Farm, celebrating its 125th birthday this year with the opening of the latest exhibit Crocodiles on the Nile. Also on the island are the St. Augustine Lighthouse Maritime Museum, Florida's first lighthouse, where one can climb the 219 steps to the top of the tower. Nearby is the St. Augustine Amphitheatre, the city's award-winning outdoor music venue and Anastasia State Park with miles of pristine Atlantic beaches perfect for swimming, surfing or just relaxing in the white, sugary sand. Dining in St. Augustine can be a culinary adventure into the past too. The food scene has many influences of the cultures and people that have been a part of the city's past. Spanish, Irish, Minorcan, Greek, and Lightner Museum
