Once at our booth, Eli, our waiter–must say, he was the coolest person in the room–arrived promptly to go over the menu and take our order. First off: drinks. House specialty cocktails Spicy Luna and Seaside Refresher. Then Eli suggested bringing out a sampling; we nodded and smiled in anticipation. Our awaited feast started off with Kanpachi Usuzukur (thinly sliced amberjack); the Phoenix Roll (vegetarian); the Salmon Serrano, which was just the right amount of spicy; the Roasted Corn, totally finger- licking; and the Pork Shumai, which is never a letdown. Then came the Sushi Platter, which included Aji Sashimi (whole horse Mackerel) –the skeleton of which was later deep fried and brought out as an unexpectedly scrumptious, crispy snack–; spicy lobster with egg wrapper; sea urchin; fatty tuna belly, and goldeneye Perch. Every piece of fish was fresh as can be and the combination of flavors was exceptional. Lastly came the signature Fried Chicken. Yes, I found it rather peculiar at first. But once my palate made its acquaintance, it became clear. It is the most well-breaded (if you can even say that), crunchy, juicy chicken I've had in a while. Add the wasabi honey for a fiery delight, and then pair it with oxtail fried rice, which includes a bone marrow omelet, shitake mushrooms, and daikon radish. Spectacular. Finally, dessert. I'm not really one for sweet endings, but I have to say the Key Lime Pie with ice cream was quite delicious. As I walked out of the dining room, I realized there was more seating outside overlooking the "Private pool in patio" (as the outside neon sign clearly states). This made my experience end on an even higher note. All in all, my fascination with The Plymouth and Blue Ribbon left me with incentive enough for a second round. Verdict: You had me at "Irasshaimase!" ML Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill-South Beach is located at 336 21st Street, The Plymouth Hotel, Miami Beach, FL 33139.
