Hotel Bel-Air On the Westside of Los Angeles, along the north side of Sunset Boulevard, lies the upscale neighborhood of Bel-Air, which, with Beverly Hills and Holmby Hills, forms the informally known Platinum Triangle. And right in the heart of it is landmark hideaway, Hotel Bel- Air. Originally, Hotel Bel-Air was built as an estate planner and sales off ices. Bel-Air stables sat nearby and residents would enjoy the winding equestrian trails in the vicinity. In 1946, hotel entrepreneur Joseph Drown purchased 18-acres of land, as well as the offices and hired architect Burton Schutt to transform the premises into an elegant pastoral hotel hideaway that encompasses most of the land. His vision was to create a natural California oasis fraught with regional foliage and constant blooms. The glamorous retreat was opened in August 24, 1946, and now features 53 rooms and 45 suites along lush gardens that grant guests a great sense of intimacy. Guests can experience this magnificent vision from the entryway, where the gardens, lake, and swans provide a warm welcome. In 2008, Hotel Bel- Air was acquired by the Dorchester Collection, who closed the hotel's doors in 2009 in order for it to undergo a two-year renovation under the leadership of Alexandria Champalimaud and Rockwell Group, reopening in October 2011.
