It shouldn't be a surprise if designer Patricia Field's name rings a bell. Known most widely for her Emmy Award- winning work on Sex and the City, where she brought high fashion to televisions across America, Field's contribution to the progress of fashion in the United States is unprecedented. Yet even with such influence, the designer turned artist has grown weary of watching high design dissolve into fast fashion and mass production, leaving a vacuum for something new in its wake. For her debut at Miami Art Week, Field has developed ArtFashion, an immersive new experience where high art meets cutting-edge fashion, bringing together some of the most promising young artists from across the globe working exclusively on one-of- a-kind, ready to wear pieces designed to buck routine of today's predictable attire. The collection, which includes bedazzled, painted, studded, ripped, deconstructed looks for both men and women, has already caught the eye of celebrities like Beyoncé, Madonna, and Miley Cyrus. Once Field introduces her downtown New York vibe to the streets of one of Miami's most forward thinking neighborhoods, the ripple effect could be limitless. "We are in a time where one note fashion is king, but many of us want to represent the idiosyncratic spirit that we have inside of us --to express ourselves as individuals who stand out as interesting and colorful in the gray that is sweeping fashion," says Field. "We are artists, not mass-producers; and as artists we strive to create a special voice in our work. Patricia Field ArtFashion captures that energy and inspires the imagination of the individual voice." To create such an ambitious collection, Field drew upon her lifetime spent living and working in New York to assemble a cadre of artists and collaborators for a show unlike anything Wynwood has seen. Part fashion show, part pop-up, part bazaar, ArtFashion will take over the White Dot Gallery for the month of December, creating an interactive mix of paintings, sculptures, photography, and other media by Artists Kevin McHugh, Richard Alvarez, and Tina Paul. And of course, there will be fashion. ArtFashion centers around a collection of garments and traditional artworks created by artists including Scooter Laforge, Suzan Pitt, Jody Morlock, Iris Barbee Bonner, Thomas Knight, Suzanne Mallouk, Kyle Brincefield, Ben Copperwheat, Steven Wine, and Kiss. Field chose each for their aesthetic vision, and their ability to transform a simple piece of clothing into a living, breathing canvas, designed to blur the lines between clothing and art, creating an entirely new definition of fashion. With such a collection of talent together for one experience, Field isn't simply displaying her keen eye for good taste, but an absolute upper hand when it comes to shifting tides. Field's latest work comes after the closing of her New York boutique in March 2016, which she owned for nearly 50 years. There, she collaborated with and showed artists like Keith Haring and Basquiat, sharing the same art-driven garments she is once again helping bring to life. A modern boutique with roots in the past, ArtFashion pays homage while pushing ahead. After a launch party to kick off the month-long ArtFashion event during Miami Art Week, Field and her team of artist-designers will be in residence throughout the month of December for a variety of events. The pieces, initially intended to show in the same manner we would expect to see a Dali or a Koons, will eventually go on sale, giving visitors to the installation a chance to take home one of Field's exclusive, one-of-a-kind pieces.
