CHARITY GIVING BACK The Miami Dolphins Foundation hosts the 2012 Miami Dolphins FinsWeekend Words by Matthew Weeks Bill Fauerbach, Dolphins center Mike Pouncey, Kristian Fong and Dottie Fauerbach at Hook and Tackle Captain's Party Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland, Don Shula Leadership Award Winner Karlos Dansby and Owner Stephen Ross at Hook and Tackle Captain's Party Since 1998, FinsWeekend has been an annual three-day event where members of the community have the opportunity to meet current and former Miami Dolphins players and coaches in an effort to raise money for the Miami Dolphins Foundation (MDF). As soon as I read, Golf – Fish – Party, I knew I was in for a great time. After all, those three simple words epitomize what FinsWeekend is all about. Through their signature golfing and fishing tournaments, the MDF provides educational, health, and youth athletic programs that inspire and engage communities throughout Florida. It's a win- win situation for everyone involved and this year alone, the MDF raised over $600,000. 86 MIAMI LIVING Fins Weekend Chairman Jeff Peck, Co-Chair Paul Castronovo and Reggie Bush at Hook and Tackle Captain's Party This staggering sum is the most money raised ever, which makes me believe this may be our year! Thursday, May 17 MDF FinsWeekend Celebrity Draw Party Turnberry Isle, Miami 19999 West Country Club Drive Aventura, FL 33180 7–9pm Presented by Sun Life Financial, FinsWeekend kicked off with the Celebrity Draw Party at the luxurious Turnberry Isle, Miami. If you've never been, you must. As one might expect, the event was filled with a dizzying parade of mixed drinks, accompanied by turquoise and orange miniature fold-up umbrellas, a bevy of light reggae, and plenty of delicious hors d'oeuvres. I've never turned down a bacon- wrapped scallop, have you? Interactive games such as putting, chipping, pitch and sand shots were ongoing as attendees attempted to win various prizes. Celebrity sightings included Jason Taylor (football icon and former DWTS runner-up), Brian Hartline, Rob Konrad, and Greg Baty. After taking some snapshots with the Dolphins' stunning cheerleaders, I must admit the temperature of the room spiked a few degrees!
