EXCLUSIVE 104 MIAMI LIVING M A R K I N A B R A S : W H Y D I D YO U C H O O S E M I A M I TO B E A H O M E B A S E ? Andy Murray: For the last, really, eight years probably I been coming here to spend my off season in December and then also I come in July-August time. For me, it's the perfect training conditions. There are a lot of people to practice [with]. I have a nice apartment here. I like to be close to the ocean. The food is good. It is a very convenient, easy place to get around. Yeah, I like it. I used to do a lot stuff at The University of Miami. They let me use the football gym there, which is obviously an amazing facility, and they also have the running track, so I used to spend a lot of time there. Now, I'm based more here [Brickell area], so I practice on center court (Crandon Park), which is about 10 minutes from my apartment. It is a lot easier on the joints then running on hard courts. And for me, playing ten years on the tour, anything I can do to sort of save my joints is good, but it is extremely tough on the muscles. Even though you don't feel like you are running fast, your heart rate gets extremely high and it is a good way to train. AM: I speak with a lot of different athletes to learn from them. I went to the gym on South Beach on 5th street. I was over there and it is good to see other athletes training. The gym is vey basic there but I liked it. It is quite old school. AM: I go because I enjoy it. I love sports and try to learn about what they do and if there is anything you can take from it and put into your training, but even if you can't, it can still be used as motivation.
