Bulgari Hotel Rome Review: Modern Luxury Meets Ancient History When I think of Bulgari, several concepts immediately come to mind: timeless luxury, precision craftsmanship, and a bold Italian heritage. During my recent stay at Bulgari Hotel Rome, I found that these qualities translate seamlessly into a physical space. Unlike many luxury fashion collaborations, Bulgari Hotels and Resorts are directly managed by the brand rather than licensed out. This hands-on approach ensures that the jeweler’s signature design philosophy is felt in every detail of the hospitality experience. The Rome property, which opened in 2023, beautifully translates this vision into a physical reality. History The hotel occupies a magnificent 43,000 square foot modernist building constructed between 1936 and 1938. Designed by Italian architect Vittorio Ballio Morpurgo, the seven-story structure is a masterclass in rationalist architecture (a type of architecture focusing on logical design prioritizing clean features and utility). During my tour of the property, I appreciated how the recent restoration by architectural firm Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel respects this heritage. The design beautifully contrasts clean modernist geometries with classical Roman materials, utilizing warm ochre travertine, fine Pentelic marble, and burnt red brick to echo the monumental scale of ancient Rome. Looking closer at the public spaces, I noticed Bulgari’s exquisite custom craftsmanship, from the polished terrazzo floors with geometric mosaic inserts to the unique Murano glass cones adorning the main bar. Location Situated at number 10 in the central Piazza Augusto Imperatore, the hotel enjoys a commanding presence in the historic Campo Marzio neighborhood. It directly faces two of Rome’s most significant archaeological treasures: the Ara Pacis altar and the 1st-century Mausoleum of Augustus.
