Interview by Markin Abras Photos courtesy of Alexander Zverev Miami Living: Since the last time you played here in Miami, a year ago, has there been anything new or unexpected about your game? Alexander Zverev: Well, I’d say nothing (laughs). But I’m still working on improving, of course. I think all the top guys are constantly trying to get better. We’re always watching each other, like Jannik (Sinner) and Carlos (Alcaraz), and I’m sure they’re keeping an eye on me too. We’re all trying to figure out how to beat each other and the best players in the world. Miami Living: What would you say has been a proud moment for you this past year? Zverev: I won the Rolex Paris Masters and the Italian Open, plus I made it to two Grand Slam finals. It’s been great, but of course, there are still things I want to achieve. I have some big dreams I’m working towards, and Miami is a big one that we’re all really looking forward to. Miami Living: Let’s switch gears a bit—where do you call home? And how often do you actually get to sleep in your own bed? Zverev: That’s a great question. With the tennis schedule, we travel so much, but right now, home is Monaco. I’ve got my own place there, and it’s the most relaxing time when I’m there. But in my heart, Hamburg will always be home. That’s where I grew up, and it’ll always have a special place for me. Miami Living: And share a memorable non-tennis experience that some of us may not know about. Zverev: I had an amazing time over the holidays with my whole family in the Maldives! Miami Living: Alright, let’s get a little quirky. Is there something funny or unexpected about you that people might not know? Zverev: (Laughing) Actually, I asked my girlfriend Sophia (Thomalla) this question. I said, “Sophia, what’s something quirky that people don’t know about me?” And she responded, “Oh, there are a lot of things, but I can’t tell!” (laughs) So I asked her, “Come on, you know me better than I do—what is it?” And her answer? Apparently, I’m a great cook!
