From Tokyo to Miami - Experience Gucci’s Bamboo 1947 Journey Gucci’s special exhibition has touched down in Tokyo until September, but don’t sweat the 17+ hour flight from Miami—we’ve spared you the jet lag and brought it straight to you right here. Enjoy Gucci, minus the peanuts and turbulence! The exhibition, titled ‘Bamboo 1947: Then and Now – Celebrating 60 Years of Gucci in Japan,’ is happening at the Gucci Ginza Gallery in Tokyo until September 23rd. It showcases the evolution of the iconic Bamboo 1947 bag, a masterpiece originally crafted by Guccio Gucci and his Florentine artisans. The bag’s bamboo handles have become a lasting symbol of Gucci’s innovation and craftsmanship, reimagined by each creative director over the years. Featuring approximately 400 Bamboo 1947 bags—spanning from archival pieces dating back to 1959 to the latest creations by Creative Director Sabato De Sarno—the exhibition also highlights 60 vintage bags from the 1980s and 1990s, reinterpreted by Japanese artisans and contemporary artists.
